ABOUT

The Fairfax Community Skatepark was organized by a volunteer committee, and the park could not have come to fruition without countless others throughout the community who donated time, energy, and materials, as well as donors who contributed to the skatepark GoFundMe campaign. Now that we have a temporary park, we are working to ensure its success so that the Town will approve a skatepark in Fairfax permanently!

The skatepark is located in the Bank Street parking lot along the ballfield fence, between Bank of America and the Fairfax Pavilion, in Fairfax, California.

SKATEPARK ETIQUETTE

Look around before you ride - become familiar with the terrain.
Look while you ride - watch out for others.
Take Turns - let everyone have a chance to ride.
Help out - If you see a rider who needs assistance, be supportive and help out.
Ride Within Your Capabilities - If you do a trick that is out of your reach, you risk serious injury. Progression will come naturally through practice.
No snaking, dropping in or Monster runs: You aren't the only one out there, please be considerate to fellow riders so everyone gets an opportunity to ride.
Stay Safe: If you lose control of your board and it is heading towards other skaters, yell "Board!"

WHY DOES FAIRFAX NEED A SKATE/SCOOTER PARK?

  • Lockdown and Zoom-School have been hard for kids. They are isolated and no longer have their usual physical activities.

  • Kids need healthy, Covid-safe outdoor activities.

  • Skating is a positive form of risk-taking behavior and adrenaline-seeking, and offers kids an alternative to negative types of risk taking behaviors.

  • Skaters in Fairfax have nowhere to skate (legally).

  • A designated legal space to skate will reduce mishaps and accidents.

  • Skating/scootering is equitable and accessible for all.  It is affordable and can be done in one's free time, unlike many organized and expensive sports teams. It does not require expensive gear or supplies.

  • The Fairfax community values getting people outdoors and off screens! But it needs more opportunities for outdoor activities.

  • Skating/scootering offers kids a healthy, physical means to challenge themselves, learn from failures, and take pride in their successes.

  • Fairfax needs more things for kids and teens to do once they outgrow Peri Park.
